Philosophy

In the new age we're in, where software can be assumed, we are creating at a new pace. Every kind of output from AI has it's slop, but with code and software slop the problems get worse over time. Failures at scale, crumbling or bloated UX, and information pollution are all symptoms of this new form and pace of software development. At the pace of industrialized software any degree of misalignment becomes a large scale problem in the future. Trying to wrangle this organically growing software is the new challenge, and it requires a different scale of problem.

The problems we're facing are closer to that a natural processes like plant growth or evolution, sprawling systems made from many small pieces stacking and changing direction. When we try to force our old world (pre-AI) views and tooling onto these new world problems they fall flat or spin out of control. Code reviewing every agents code breaks down at human-scale the same way one person can struggle to farm a whole field by hand. Once industrialized tooling is developed then processes can be scaled. We have some of the industrialized tooling, but our processes are still bottlenecked at human-scale.

In the same way that a mold by be used in a large industrial process or to shape the growth of a plant, we should be developing tools that can shape and course correct that the pace of our development. The pace of agentic software development is much more like a rushing fluid than the deliberate hand-stacking growth of pre-AI development. If we're dealing with a fluid then our tools should be trying to shape it like a fluid. The physics of how the software develops (spec driven, test driven, idea driven, copying mocks, building docs) is very different then the slow plodding paced world our tools were originally developed for.

At tensegrity, the philosophy is to develop some rigid surfaces for agents to work with that can create structure this organic growth. Simply speaking, with the right anchor points a rid system can develop on it's own. The same way a spider web creates a surface in thin air from a few anchors, we can create a rigid shape to mold and guide for this new pace of software development
